About Me

Ey up! I’m Abs,

An independent celebrant based in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire.

This is a photo of me, reading a poem I wrote for my friends wedding. This was the moment where I thought, hang on, wouldn’t it be brilliant to do this as a job! That’s what led me to learn more and train with the internationally recognised Fellowship of Professional Celebrants - now I have all the tools to help others celebrate & curate a personalised ceremony for any occasion.

I may live in Yorkshire now, but my life started in Preston, Lancashire. I’m a proud northerner, a PNE fan, a lover of art, music and comedy.

Caring for others is in my bones. I qualified as a mental health nurse in 2016 and moved to London, met some of my most cherished pals, worked with some inspiring people, went on a 3 month adventure to South America and had a bloomin’ lovely time. But my heart (and family) are in the north. I’m ultimately drawn to nature and love being outdoors, which is why I’ve settled in the mystical Calder Valley, living with my partner, Bob and cat, Misty.

I’m a warm & friendly soul who loves nothing more than having a laugh. A good book, a pub quiz, a painting/crafting session, a ramble in the hills & trees, live music, comedy nights, quality time with my friends & family, and the occasional pint of cask ale - are all what brings me joy!

As a nurse, you get to know people and their families on a deeper level to ultimately improve lives. Listening & helping others fulfils me. It’s not too dissimilar to being a celebrant. I’m interested in others and want to bring people’s stories to life through celebration.
